EU Eyes the Arctic as It Seeks to Prop Up Its Energy Security

Thursday, November 20, 2008 - After looking for possible oil and gas supplies in Central Asia and Africa to increase its energy security, the European Union is widening its interest toward the Arctic. Up to 25% of undiscovered petroleum could be located in the Arctic region.

Turkish Firms, Shell Form Iraq Gas Partnership

Thursday, November 20, 2008 - Turkish state firms Botas and TPAO and global energy major Shell have formed a natural gas partnership in Iraq. Additionally, TPAO has been invited to enter exploration tenders for eight oilfields, for which the firm may partner with Shell.

Court Voids Shell's Beaufort Sea Drilling Plan

Thursday, November 20, 2008 - The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals blocked a major oil-drilling program in the Beaufort Sea, ruling that federal officials failed to address environmental impacts when they granted permission to Shell to drill at the Sivulliq prospect.

Sasol Pleased with Njika-1 Results

Thursday, November 20, 2008 - Sasol completed the Njika-1 exploration well on Block 16/19 offshore Mozambique. Located in 460 meters of water, the well indicated the presence of gas and is currently being tested to determine commerciality.

Thursday, November 20, 2008 - The well confirmed a 38 meter gas column, and too early to determine if it is commercially viable when seen in connection with a possible field development of Haklang and the nearby Luva and Snefrid South finds.

Fugro Anticipates Profit Increase for 2008

Thursday, November 20, 2008 - Fugro expects to realise a revenue of more than EUR 2.1 billion for the full year 2008. Barring unforeseen circumstances the net result is expected to be at least EUR 275 million, which means an increase of more than 27% compared to last year.
